PROJECT BACKGROUND

GIVE US SPACE is a documentary and a bit more.

We focus on creative documentation, research and action around housing issues.

Our focus is on people and their struggles as they are affected by the shortage of affordable and secure housing in London, the welfare reforms, housing markets and policies, etc;  The aim of Give us Space project is to share information and generate awareness about the human and social impact of insecure and unaffordable housing. We wish to inform, inspire and engage in positive change and defend affordable, secure, sustainable homes accessible to all.

The project came about from the film maker's direct experience dealing with many difficult housing situations in London, which affected all aspects of her live; we learned a lot from it, researched it more deeply and we decided to share it. A feature documentary was the chosen medium, as we believe video is a powerful tool to spread the word and generate awareness.

Information | awareness

We've put together a resources page to share links and articles that hopefully will help people to find the relevant info to better understand and resolve their housing issues; we also wish to share ideas that can inspire people to consciously choose more sustainable ways of living, because a home is more than 'a roof over your head'.

The facebook page shares the work in progress of the documentary/project, links and news about housing in London as well as other housing issues and strugles around the world. 'Like' the page if you wish to follow it and feel free to comment!

The project has been growing organically; we finished the film, which took over two years to complete. This is a completely  self-funded low budget independent project made by one person with the occasional help of few friends and collaborators.

Support us with a Gift if you can. You can still give a donation or self-organize a screening. The dvd is now sold out but you can check our hand-made covers here. Thank you.

We hope to promote discussion and support housing issues. We are keen in collaborations and partnerships with people, action groups and communities. We believe creativity, knowledge and cooperation are key to create lasting change and it is crucial to do so in innovative ways based on ethical principles.
