PAST EVENTS

& SCREENINGS

I organized Give us Space events since October 2014. My intention was to show the documentary, while creating awareness about the housing crisis and related issues such as alternatives for sustainable housing and living. I am interested in bringing people together and hold a space for people to share stories, ideas and action. I have been inviting guests, artists, musicians, to collaborate, create, bring new perspectives and open up possibilities. Each event is unique! Below you can have a glimpse of the events so far.

Now I am offering the documentary on a Gift basis for people to show it in their own events too. So if you are interested in screening the film in your community, festival, conference, or want to organize an event (about the housing crisis /social housing/ gentrification/ squatting/ cooperatives/ communities etc) and would like to show the film, to REQUEST A SCREENING, please fill in the form and tell us a bit more about your event. A donation is requested. For questions please email us!

Give us Space is a feature documentary (67 min).

Landmatters Community

Devon

I was pleased to show Give us Space in the yurt at Landmatters Community in Devon during the Permaculture Design Course I did last summer. I shared the film with my  permaculture new friends and resident members of the community.

We also watched the beautiful documentary about the beginning of Landmatters and the journey of these pioneers, 10 years ago.

Landmatters is a Transition Community living "To be a thriving, nature-connected permaculture community living low-impact solutions that reduce our ecological footprint, so we can be an active part of creating a sustainable world. We connect with and steward the land in order to enhance its diversity, productivity and beauty, whilst providing an educational resource to the wider community."

EVENTS 2014

9th November, 7.30. Rochester Square Gardens, Camden

Public screening, discussion, healing space, open day at Rochester Square Garden, an occupied garden center in the heart of Camden, North London, where people are self-building their homes and using permaculture principles to live sustainably and in harmony. they're planning to go off-grid soon with solar panels. We filmed a scene of the film there so we were very happy to go back and discuss housing issues with residents, friends and anyone who came.

FB event

16th November, 7pm. Sanford Housing Co-operative

We went to South London (New Cross) to show the film at Sanford Housing Co-Op and discuss more housing issues! Sanford is not in the film, but we love it! It was the first Housing Co-op in London, it opened in 1974 when a "handful of housing/ student activists were seeking ways in which they could take back control over their own lives and avoid the isolation of the big city." It's a community, housing 120 people. Sanford went Green in 2008 and reduced its carbon emission by 60%.  FB event

25th October 2014
Documentary Premiere and Launch party

We were very pleased to create a very special underground event in a squatted space to launch the documentary! We showed the film and brought together collaborators, artists, musicians, activists, Djs, the 'stars' in the film, plus a really nice crowd of hundreds people who joined us for the film, gigs and the wild party.

Live acts: 52 Commercial Road with live visuals by Claudia Tomaz, Pete the Temp, Jane Wild, Radical Housing Network, live art by Morganico, music/Djs: Buster, Recursive, Everyday Junglist, EK50, Squeaky Grinder and the support of Dissident Island. Thank you all who participated, helped and came out to create an amazing night!
